Mangaluru: NITK's annual 3-day fest Incident 2020 'A tryst with time' begins

Mangaluru, Feb 28: Chairperson of the board of governing NITK, K Balaveera Reddy inaugurated the 40th edition of Incident 2020 'A tryst with time', the cultural festival of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal here on Thursday February 27 at NITK Surathkal, the event will held till March 1.

Addressing the gathering, film Actor Diganth said, "A student's life is golden and makes use of the opportunity he/she get's to take part in extracurriculum activity as it will be handy in their future.

Meanwhile, actor Diganth danced to the tune of 'Good morning' song from Katheyondhu Shuruvagide.

The event will be held from February 27 to March 1.



The annual event is expected to witness a footfall of around 10,000 students each day this year. Incident has grown to be one of Karnataka’s biggest college events. Celebrating 40 years since its inception, this year’s edition aims to look back and pay homage to all the years that have led to this year, hence the theme: 'A Tryst with Time'.

Incident has always been a launchpad for new talent, and this year is no different with five different dance competitions ranging from semi-professional Eastern and contemporary to freestyle and hip-hop, not to mention that the Karnataka auditions for hip hop international, India finals will take place at Incident '20.

Incident also has its share of music events covering diverse genres from Indian rock and fusion to eastern and western solo and band competitions. Other marquee events include Haute Couture, the fashion show and Slam Dunk, the basketball tournament. Prizes worth over Rs 20,00,000 are on offer this edition of Incident as new sports, literature and management events, among others, make an entry alongside volleyball, throwball, street play and dramatics finding focus.

Apart from the competitions, Incident will also be host to an array of workshops including a dance workshop by choreographer Sushant Pujari, technical workshops by Techobyte, talks, performers, beach events and informal events, including a stunt show, a kite fest and an adventure zone. This year's series of Inci-Talks will focus on 'Sheroes of India' with actress and five-time TEDx speaker Nikita Sharma, F4 driver Henna Jayanth, YouTuber Prajakta Koli and spoken word artist Aranya Johar lined up as speakers.

The Raghu Dixit Project will set the stage on fire at Fusion Night on February 28.

Day 2, February 29, will see DJ SE3K and international violinist and DJ, DJ Danika perform at the Sunburn Campus EDM Night. Incident 2020 is all set to end with a bang on March 1, with one of Bollywood's most celebrated music composer-producer duos, Salim-Sulaiman, of Chak De! India, Fashion and Kurbaan fame, live in concert with Bhoomi Trivedi, Vipul Mehta and Raj Pandit.

Dean of student welfare, Jagannath Nayak welcomed the gathering.

Deputy general manager Hutti Gold Mines, Vidhathri U, senior divisional manager LIC Anantha Padmanabha K, director NITK Surathkal, Prof K Umamaheshwar Rao, convenor of Incident 2020, Sachin and co-ordinator Bharath and others were present.
