Kundapur: 1.152 kg gold being smuggled by vehicle seized

Kundapur, Feb 27: The policemen here, who came to know that gold was being illegally transported in a Chevrolet Tavera vehicle, intercepted the vehicle and arrested five persons. Six more are being questioned.

The raid was conducted by a team of local police personnel led by circle inspector Gopoikrishna, acting under the guidance of Kundapur subdivision assistant superintendent of police Hariram Shankar. The five who were carrying 1.152 kg of gold without any documents by Tavera vehicle were taken into custody from near Basrur diversion.

The arrested persons happen to be Naveed (23), Muhammed Khaleel Kazia (62), Muhammed Aseem (23), Faiz Ahmed Maan (29) and Muhammed Adnan (25), all from Bhatkal. Six others found seated in another vehicle were taken into possession for questioning.

It is learnt that the accused had arrived at Kozhikode airport from Dubai. They had travelled to Mangaluru by train and then were travelling in a Tavera vehicle to Bhatkal when they were caught red-handed.
