Mangalore University to confer honorary doctorate on K C Naik

Mangaluru, Feb 27: The 38th convocation of Mangalore University will be held at 3 pm at Mangala auditorium on February 27. This was announced by vice chancellor of the university, Prof P S Yadapadithaya, at a press meet he addressed on Wednesday, February 26.

"Union minister of state for external affairs and parliamentary affairs minister V Muraleedharan, will be delivering the convocation address. Deputy chief minister and minister for higher education Dr Ashwath Narayan will preside. Considering valuable contributions he has made to education and social service sectors, honorary doctorate will be conferred on entrepreneur K C Naik. Two will be given doctor of literature degrees, while PhD degrees will be conferred on 105 persons. Gold medals will be awarded to 34 persons and cash awards will be disbursed to over 120," he explained.

Yadapadithaya stated that in the examinations conducted by the university during the academic year 2018-19, 42,405 candidates appeared for examinations, and 29,914 of them cleared them with a pass percentage of 70.54. He also said that 6,217 out of 6,663 who appeared for postgraduate examination cleared the examination. In the degree examination, 23,561 out of 35,602 who appeared, have passed," he narrated.

He also said that the 'Shaheed Chowk (war memorial)' built at Mangala auditorium ground at a cost of Rs 24 lac will be inaugurated by V Muraleedharan on the occasion.

Registrar A M Khan, registrar (examinations) Prof Raveendrachar, and syndicate member Ramesh, were present.
