Martyr's status for Head Constable Ratan Lal: BJP leader


Jaipur, Feb 26 (IANS): Ratan Lal, the Delhi Police Head Constable and resident of Tihawali village in Sikar district, who lost his life during the Delhi violence on Monday, was given a martyr's status by the Central government on Wednesday, confirmed BJP state President Satish Poonia here.

He said that he spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Minister of State G. Kishan Reddy for giving martyr status to Ratan Lal, after which he was awarded the same. The Central government also provided financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to his family.

These apart, a government job will be provided to a dependent in his family.

In this regard, Sikar MP Sumedhanand Saraswati handed over the letter by the Central government to the family of the martyr.

Poonia said that Ratan Lal's family had demanded martyr's status for him and the entire BJP had shared the same sentiment with the government.

Poonia passed the demand to BJP National President J.P. Nadda who suggested that he contact Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

"On his instructions, I spoke to the Union Home Minister and the Minister of State for Home. As a result of this, the information of Ratan Lal ji getting martyr status was given by Home Minister Amit Shah himself on the phone. After receiving the information, Sikar and Jhunjhunu MPs were informed and the martyr was cremated with full honours and respect," he said.
