MI junior meet: Mishra scalps 8 after ton in Nagpur leg

Nagpur, Feb 17 (IANS): Devansh Mishra of Centre Point School, Katol Road, lit up the inaugural day of the Nagpur leg of Mumbai Indians junior cricket tournament with remarkable all-round performance in a boys' U-16 contest on Monday.

Mishra first struck a brilliant hundred and then starred with the ball by taking eight wickets to hog the limelight in a massive 305-run win for his team against Podar World School.

Batting first, Mishra wielded his bat effectively to notch up 116 runs and help Centre Point School score 394/8 in 40 overs. He was ably supported by Prabhviraj Lamba who scored 89.

Chasing a stiff target, Podar World School batsmen were done in by Mishra's destructive bowling performance as they folded for a paltry 89 in 15.3 overs.

In another fine performance of the day in the Mumbai leg of the tournament, Abdul Riyaz of Ajuman-I-Islam Urdu High School smashed an unbeaten century off just 40 balls and the followed it up with a five-wicket haul to star in his team's massive 412-run win over Next School, Mulund.

Riyaz's swashbuckling 100 towards the end helped Ajuman amass a huge total of 459/3 in 39 overs after Krishna Singh had set the platform by scoring 132 in the boys' U-14 contest at the Oval Maidan in Mumbai.

Left with an improbable task of chasing 460 inside 40 overs, Next School batsmen made a jittery start and could never recover before getting bowled out for just 44 in 13.3 overs.

Dhirubhai Ambani International School's Amartya Raje took six wickets in a boys' U-16 match against Abhinav Vidyamandir Borival at Azad Maidan, helping his team clinch the game by two wickets.

In the same category, all-rounder Sahil Jadhav of Don Bosco High School, Matunga, scored a stylish half-century off 45 balls and picked up four crucial wickets as Bosco thrashed Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School by five wickets.

In a girls' U-16 match at the Shivaji Park Gymkhana, Bhoomi Verma of Lokpuram Publich School, Thane, grabbed four wickets to lead her team to an emphatic 10-wicket victory over St. Aloysius High School, Nallasopara.
