MI Jr tournament: Atharva, Prithvi set up Shardashram's win


Mumbai, Feb 14 (IANS): Shardashram Vidyamandir, Dadar showed its dominance with a massive 337-run win in their Under-16 Boys match of the Mumbai Indians Junior Cricket Tournament on Friday. Atharva Bhagat bowled them to victory at the Sassanian, Azad Maidan by taking a six-wicket haul.

The bowling effort came after Shardashram batsmen sent Vishwajyot bowlers to the cleaners by amassing 406/6 in 35 overs to give the impression that the wicket was a batting paradise. However, Bhagat showed his bowling prowess by giving regular jolts to the Vishwajyot batting line-up and hardly gave anything away to pick up the ‘Player of the Match' title.

Eventually, the Vishwajyot batsmen succumbed under the pressure of the huge chase, getting bowled out for 69 runs in 23 overs.

Earlier, Prithvi Nair clobbered an exciting century to pave the way for the team's huge total in excess of 400. Nair scored 113 and was ably supported by Gaurav Vishwakarma (46).

Azim Shaikh came up with yet another impressive bowling performance on the day to star in Anjuman-I-Islam English School, Vashi's easy eight-wicket win over Dhirubhai Ambani International School. Player of the Match, Shaikh took a five-wicket haul to limit the Dhirubhai Ambani boys to 81 all-out in 30 overs.

The target never tested the strong Anjuman batting line-up as Farhan Shaikh hammered an unbeaten 57 to guide his team to an emphatic win at the Parsee Cyclists pitch.

In a U-14 Boys match at BMC, Shivaji Park, Pranay Rana scored 137 not out to help Dr. Antonio D'Silva School, Dadar beat IES Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya, Dadar by 300 runs. Rana required just 102 balls to play an exciting innings as Dr. Antonio D'Silva posted a massive 419/3 in 36 overs on the board after batting first. Pranav Gupta chipped in with 75 runs. In response, IES Raja Shivaji Vidyalaya were bowled out for 119 in 31.4 overs.

At the Times of India pitch at Azad Maidan, Malhar Mane of Swami Vivekanand International School, Borivali played a swashbuckling knock of 72 runs in 47 balls against Holy Cross High School, Lower Parel in the boys U-16 category.

Mane cruised to an unbeaten 72 runs off 47 balls as Swami Vivekanand roared to a ten-wicket win in 15.2 overs over Holy Cross High School, Lower Parel who had scored 121/10 in 36.4 overs while batting first.
