Mangaluru: Congress leader hurls expletives, assaults Mescom staff

Mangaluru, Jan 28: A Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd (Mescom) staff who had been to the residence of a Congress leader to verify unpaid electricity bill was insulted with expletives and assaulted by the Congress leader here.

The incident occurred at Jalalabagh, Deralakatte, Kotekar town panchayat limits, on Tuesday, January 28. The Mescom staff who was the victim of assaults is identified as Kotekar lineman Madhu.

Lineman Madhu had been to the residence of Jalalabagh resident Ameer Hussain on directions from Mescom as his electricity bill had remained unpaid. Madhu is said to have verified the bill and the meter and asked Hussain to pay the bill. Hussain in turn hurled abuses at Madhu at that juncture and assaulted him.

A police complaint under section 353 of obstructing a government worker from discharging his duties is registered on the basis of a complaint from Madhu.

Ameer Hussain was the president of Thumbe Congress labour unit. Mescom employees arrived at Ullal police station condemning the incident and urged for strict action against the guilty.
