Mangaluru, Jan 25: “The union government should realize its fault, rectify and protect its honour. Though you run the government, the auction of country’s honour is equivalent to losing our individual honour. India's honour is at stake," said former IAS officer Sasikanth Senthil. He was speaking from Mudipu Mahatma Gandhinagar Dr B R Ambedkar stage on Friday, January 24, in mass protests held against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Population Register (NPR) by Citizenship Protection Committee.

“The government is trying to change the name of new Acts to mislead people. Why everybody should be punished in the guise of nabbing intruders. Why should all the inmates of a house be asked to come out if there was a theft? It is as if asking who we are in our own country. The situation has spoiled peace.

“The way I see, the dumbest government in the world is that of Narendra Modi. Most people do not have documents and they did not think of preparing them. The matter is not confined to Muslims alone. Dalits, Adivasis, migrants, backward class people and poor are facing huge problem. We should unite and teach a lesson to the union government.

“Do not be afraid even if the government pushes us to prison. We had not spoken about note ban. We did not oppose even after the government converted entire Kashmir state as prison. But we should be alert that the government does not go beyond this. Do not give any information about yourself to officials coming at your door steps. If they come to collect details for NPR, tell them that we will not answer,” he said.

MLA U T Khader said, “Do as promised that you will make the country indivisible. We support your resolve that you will make sure that Pakistan does not exist on the world map. A person does not travel from Kashmir to Kanyakumari not on the courage of RSS or BJP but on the strength derived from the Constitution,” he said.

Udupi Khazi Bekal Ibrahim Musliar who inaugurated the programme said that there are several religions in the country just like flowers in a garden. “All are living in harmony but the government is trying to snatch that life by implementing new Acts. Let the elected representatives realize our pain by the mammoth crowd that has gathered here. May the almighty give will to the government to withdraw the law,” he said.

Bengaluru’s Nyayapatha newspaper editor Dr Vasu H V said that it is unfortunate that the group that had sent letter of apology to the British is speaking about identifying the real owners of the country.

Pauratva Samrakshana Samtihi Mudipu chief convener president Aboobacker Sajipa administered the oath. Committee co convener, advocate Ummar Pajeer gave introduction. Abdul Razak Kukkaje compered the programme. A 100-meter long national flag prepared by youth of Mudipu and Sambarthoda was hoisted on the grounds.
