Derogatory remarks against Udupi bishop on social media - Complaint filed

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (EP)

Udupi, Jan 21: Catholic Sabha Udupi has lodged a police complaint with district SP requesting to take action against a person who published derogatory statements against Udupi diocese Bishop Dr Gerald Issac Lobo.

The complaint stated, “Udupi diocese level conference of Catholics was held in Santekatte Mount Rosary Church premises on January 19. Bishop Dr Gerald Issac Lobo had inaugurated the conference. It has come to our notice that a person named Mohan Salian has made derogatory statements in Facebook highlighting the subject of his speech there.

“Bishop Dr Gerald Issac Lobo is the supreme head of Catholic community in Udupi. Insult to him amounts to insult to entire Catholic community. The post in Facebook by Mohan Salian is going viral in all the places. It is giving reason to spoil harmony.

“The Catholic community is living in Udupi with peace and tranquillity for the past several years. It is unfortunate that some people are trying to spoil harmony,” said Catholic Sabha in its complaint urging for suitable legal action against the person and ensure that such incidents do not repeat.

Alwyn Quadros, president, Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh, Santhosh Cornelio, secretary, Jerald P K D’Souza, treasurer, Gregory, joint secretary, Walter Cyril Pinto, former president, Mary D’Souza, Henry D’Souza and others were present.

Cases have been registered against Mohan Salian at Udupi city police station and Sen police station.

We Karavali Catholics have called on these kind of situations on our community leaders and religious elders due to our own attitude. It's time to look at our own house before looking at some one's back yard. We are now at the receiving end for all the good things that has been done for others for centuries ignoring our own selves.

This is not Priest house broken, to consider as burglary, this is a church break. One can see the destruction than attempt of burglary. If the intention of burglary then may be the thief doesn't know the collections made in the church are never remain in Church.

Hey Walter Dsouza, you are mistaken between abuse and complain.

What the parishioners of Shirva doing were complaining not abusive or derogatory comments to the Bishop. We all have the right to complain or protest peacefully but to be abusive or pass derogatory comments is not acceptable. Please take time to right correctly as you are trying to justify abusing the respected Bishop.

That was a poor upbringing. Parents should correct their children when they disrespect adults and religious people! There are few dislike priests and religious people for their personal reasons and do not hesitate to use any opportunity for their gain!

More and more of this nature of attacks against Christians should be expected as the balatkari party is in power in the state.

As the chaddi cowards do not have the guts to desecrate any mosque, they will attack the soft sect of Christians.

It is time for the Catholics to unite and make noise about these things. Otherwise thing will continue and may escalate like 2008 church attack.

Catholic Sabha has filed a complaint against Mohan Salian.... Good job! At last we know that they exist in Udupi... :-|

    Just a few thoughts
    a) When the video, of your Bishop who was being called names by your own youngsters(may God forgive them) with elders laughing in the background, became instantly viral, where was the "Catholic Sabha" and have they any action against them till date?
    b) October to December we read and heard of so many unpleasant happenings in Udupi Diocese after Rev. Fr Mahesh's suicide...
So many abusive audio and text messages against the Bishop and Priests were in circulation in social media by those within the community.
Any action taken against them so far?
    c) People who dont even know the procedure in any investigation, chose to undertake parallel investigation themselves and arrived at their own conclusions.. .What action has been taken against such people from the Community?
    d) Understanding the unrest caused due to delay in getting justice for Fr.Mahesh, have any efforts been made to ascertain progress in the investigation and request the police to speed it up, so that the people in the Diocese get a clear picture at the earliest?
    e) The 'learned' Catholics themselves have used abusive language against Bishop and priests after the suicide of Fr Mahesh. Is that the way we are taught to get justice for a departed soul? Has any action been taken against these self proclaimed investigators and independent 'publishing houses' and why dint Catholic Sabha at least request them to wait till police complete their job????

Having failed on all above counts, we can expect HUNDREDS of Mohan Salians to crop up, in the near future and abuse our religious leaders AND ALSO US, because they learnt it from few within our Community... By showing disrespect to our own religious leaders, and by being mute spectators, we have brought this situation on ourselves, now no use finding fault with an outsider! ☹

Really appreciated move. Same wise we should submit the complaint against kalladka bhat. As he gave the hate speech against catholic community, POPE, and Bharath Ratna Saint Mother Theresa. In fact kalladka bhats speech is the root cause for all these issues.

Yes... Good comment... Here, members of Catholic Sabha filed the complaint... Not any one of the religious leader present over there ... Same way, in the case of Dr. Bhat, we lay people write comments, oppose, raise voice.. But, not a single religious head has come forward to oppose him publicly...

    Yes true.
Not only community Christians, it should be fight against fanatic elements by civilized citizens.
In Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan and many other West Asian countries, Govt is absolutely helpless to take deterrent action against fanatic.
Slowly and steadily, such scenario is emerging in India as well.
In fanatics control, Murders and rapes steadily increasing.
Before it's too late, civilized citizens of India should come together irrespective of their religious affiliation and tame fanatic elements!

1 chronicles 16:22 there we read Do not touch my chosen people, and do not hurt my prophets.”
Nobody has got any right to speak against god's chosen people
Because they left everything for god's glory and to serve god's people
If they are wrong somewhere we are no one to condemn priests and nuns

It has become a fashion and thril to many people in India to post hate speeches to get recognition and make their voice heard. Fanatics countries fashion has come to India.
Other than giving hate speeches and engrossing people in unproductive and destructive activities and bringing down NATIONAL PRODUCTIVITY their Talents are big zero.
From Zero to Hero through destructive politics. Though the very act is seriously punishable as per constitution, it's steadily growing and very sadly Govt is unable to take deterrent action.
Best way is to file complaint, leave it there and pray to God for prevalence of wisdom.
