Mumbai, Jan 18: Tourism minister Aaditya Thackeray in a meeting called on Thursday said that establishments in non-residential areas considering ‘gated communities’ will be allowed to operate 24x7 from January 26 provided they have parking facilities and can provide security.

Police chief Sanjay Barve, BMC chief Praveen Pardeshi and representatives of malls and restaurants were present.

The initiative to boost jobs and tourism will be conducted in the beginning in Kala Ghoda, BKC and Nariman Point and in gated commercial areas.

Malls and eateries are also allowed to stay open 24x7 for two or three days a week and decide the closing hours. However those outlets serving liquor will have to close by 1.30 am.
