Hope equality is upheld: EU on CAB

New Delhi, Dec 10 (IANS): The European Union's ambassador to India, Ugo Astuto, has expressed optimism that the spirit of equality enshrined in the Indian constitution will be upheld. He was commenting on the Citizenship Amendment Bill cleared by the Lok Sabha.

The EU ambassador's comment comes in the wake of concerns raised in various quarters over the Bill which ensures citizenship for non-Muslim minorities of neighbouring countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Earlier, the House Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives, had also expressed reservations over the CAB.
