Bengaluru: BJP's 12 winners to be made ministers, says Yediyurappa

Bengaluru, Dec 9 (IANS): Buoyed by a landslide victory in 12 of the 15 Assembly by-elections held on December 5, an elated Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Monday declared that all the winning party candidates would be made ministers in the ensuing cabinet expansion soon.

"As I have assured them, all the 12 BJP candidates who won from their Assembly segments will be given cabinet posts soon. I am grateful to the people for having elected them as they sacrificed their seats to save democracy in the state," Yediyurappa told reporters in Kannada.

The ruling party wrested 10 seats from the Congress and two from the Janata Dal-Secular in the bitterly-fought by-elections.

The Congress could retain only Shivajinagar in Bengaluru central but wrested Hunasuru in Mysuru district from the JDS-S, which drew blank.

"I am thankful to the electorate for reposing their faith in the BJP government and ensuring its continuation in the state for the remaining term of the Assembly. We will focus on development of the state with a stable government," said Yediyurappa, who returned to power on July 26 for the third time in over a decade.

In the first cabinet expansion in August, Yediyurappa inducted 16 ministers, including three Deputy Chief Ministers and kept the remaining 17 posts vacant, ostensibly to reward the Congress and JD-S defectors who joined the BJP on November 14 and contested to retain their seats on the lotus symbol.

Independent Sharath Kumar Bachegowda won the Hosakote seat in the Bengaluru Rural district, defeating BJP's M.T.B. Nagaraj, who defected from the Congress and declared a whopping Rs 1,230-crore worth assets in his poll affidavit.

"I will visit New Delhi soon to discuss the cabinet expansion with party's national president Amit Shah and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support to the party's state unit in the by-elections," added Yediyurappa.

There is no use blaming EVMs or anyone for that matter. Cong has dug its own grave in desperation. Just imagine alliance with Muslim League in Kerala and alliance with Shiva Sena in Maharashtra. How do you expect revival of a party with such double standards? BJP has become so bold now ,t hat they openly say that 'minority votes are not required any more' ,

Once North India used to be Congress strong hold which trend has been changing ever since BJP have overtaken congress superiority. In view of losing popularity, congress started moving towards southern States and now only hope for them is Kerala.
After that straight to the Indian ocean for onward journey.
Even the senior congress leaders have lost faith in congress leadership and are resigning one by one. Where such situation will take congress party, any ones guess !

Its time to acknowledge many of the majoritarian have turned to Hindutva ideology. They would prefer to go hungry but would love to see the minorities lynched. You cannot expect any empathy and compassion from them. The success of BJP reflects this. Time to accept the reality.

main reason for congress defeat is vote bank politics, religion based schemes, dividing religion. unnecessary birth day schemes which was even opposed by minority. more importantly, now minority people also understood that they have been used as vote bank by congress party. that is the reason they changed their mind & voted for bjp since they want development.

If you go to Delhi with your begging bowl, please get something in it for the state's deluge victims at least so that they may remember you.

We are certain for sure the time has come to the country's electorate to teach FEKHU and DAAKHU both used Demonetisation only for their party's benefit and electoral bonds received for corporate favours in return!

Remember there is age old saying "What goes around which comes around"....may be maximum within a decade's time!!!

    Yeddy,

This may be good for you and your party in short term....you and your party will pay a very heavy price for this blunder in long run....mark my words...

I had same thing to say...when CONgress was doing Corruption and Nepotism big time after 1980 landslide Victory...they thought they will be in power for ever...and Almighty GOD created people to vote for them...No matter what they do....Arrogance of power had gone to their head....See what is happening to CONgress now....

If you continue to show same arrogance in defying peoples verdict...same fate is waiting for you sooner than later...

My position here is like 'Vidhura' in Mahabarat...I need to tell you unpleasant truth...knowing fully well you will not listen...

    ...Tak...Takk...
