Udupi, Sep 4:
Innumerable devotees thronged the Sri Durga Temple located at Kunjarugiri, near Kurkalu here on Friday September 4, to offer ‘puja’ to Goddess Durga on the third Friday of ‘Sona’ month of the Tulunadu calendar.

It is believed that the Goddess brings marital bliss, progeny, and eases trials and tribulations of life for many devotees who seek blessings especially on this occasion.

The temple is located in the pristine surroundings of Kunjarugiri hills, and is believed to be one of the temples set up by ancient Sage Parashuram in South India.

Kunjarugiri is located 175 ft above sea level and devotees have to take 257 steps to reach this abode of Goddess Durga to be granted their wishes.

The Sri Durga Temple is under the administration of Adamar Math and Goddess Durga is worshipped by the residents of Kurkalu village as their patron deity. Various Vedic rites, puja, and religious celebrations, were held on the occasion.

The temple authorities have drawn plans for the renovation of the shrine as it has been identified by the state government for its tourist potential.  The construction of a dining facility for devotees is also underway.  A committee has been formed under the leadership of Sri Vibhudeshateerta Swami of Adamar Math to undertake major renovation work at the temple.

Please don''t destroy the serenity of temple and the nature around it with rennovation, religious places are not for promoting as tourist attraction!! If you cannot maintain the architectire-don''t give permission to erect new domes which contradicts the ancient temple.
