Media release

Mangaluru, Nov 17: The inauguration of the sesquicentennial year of the Apostolic Carmel presence in Mangaluru, India got off to a memorable start with the celebration of thanksgiving Mass offered by Fr Pius James D’Souza OCD, for the faith, courage and dedication of sisters both past and present in the service of youth in India and nine other countries.

The entrance procession with 150 sisters carrying roses in their hands and placing them at the Altar was a symbol of offering to the Lord in praise and thanks for the 150 years of love and service.

After the Mass, the sisters of the entire congregation assembled in St Ann’s School Hall with the spirit of joy, hope and gratitude. The resounding voice of the MC Sr Melissa made the gathering vibrate in each other’s company. The gift of Founder Venerable Mother Veronica of the Passion to the Apostolic Carmel was voiced out by all with Charism song ‘God Alone Sufficeth’. The youngest members of the Congregation the aspirants and candidates with their gaiety and piety welcomed the gathering with their graceful movements to the rhythmic beat of song ‘Suswagatha’.

Sr Maria Shamita, the Provincial Superior of Karnataka Province, all energized with a lovely smile, proudly welcomed all to the inaugural function, especially Sr Mabilia AC., the assistant Superior General, Sr Lydia AC, the General Councillor for Education, the representatives of various provinces, tertians, postulants and the sisters.

The rain bow dance was a prelude to the short play ‘The story of a seed’ which depicted beautifully the milestones of the Congregation over the 150 years, a fitting tribute indeed to Venerable Mother Veronica. Her spirit lives in 203 houses of the Congregation and in the hearts of around 1570 sisters who serve God and His people through education and other works of mercy.

As a part of the celebration the jubilee cake was cut by the representatives of General Administration and various provinces. The celebration dance added colour and splendor to the occasion. ‘The Twin Souls, the book authored by Sr Sylvette AC was released on this occasion; she and Sr Olivia AC were felicitated for their rich contribution to AC literature.

If Mother Veronica visited the Order today which she started 150 years ago , would she recognize the Order as faithful to her Foundation? Please Google: Our Lady of Akita, and read her message given 1973-78, which caries official Church approval. And Google as wel:l Cardinal Ratzinger's Prophecy of 1969. I still love my Carmel. I am grateful. I pray for my Carmels, that God would send either Mother Veronica, or St. Teresa of Avila to reform the Order towards Jesus and Mary. Irene McNeilly

This is indeed a great event in life and history of Apostolic Carmel an order of prestige. The sisters connected with this convent give their self=less service to the cause of education. They believe in the concept THAT THE BEST GIFT ONE CAN GIVE ANOTHER IS THE GIFT OF EDUCATION.

I am pleased to state one of my sisters joined this prestigious order several decades ago and she held the post of a Principal of St. Agnes College for several years.... REV. SISTER HEDWIGE.

May all the sisters of this Order be blessed and may they continue their service to humanity.
