Udupi: Watchman who was tormenting young girls and women nabbed

Udupi, Nov 17: A person moving on two-wheeler used to harass women and young girls at night in Vidyaratna Nagar, Perampalli road, Ishwar Nagar and Udayavani Press Road in Manipal police station limits since sometime. He used to target lonely women and young girls, sexually harass them by touching them inappropriately before making good his escape. 

District superintendent of police Nisha James who realized the seriousness of the incidents, had formed a special team of police personnel under the direction of additional SP Kumarachandra and under the guidance of Udupi subdivision assistant SP T R Jaishankar. Manipal police station house officer and staff, on definite clues, arrested the suspect at Ishwarnagar on November 15 and seized the motor cycle that was being used by him for the purpose.

 

The suspect identified as Deepak Nayak, residing at Herga village, Udupi is employed as security guard under Central Industrial Security Force. He has been assigned duty as security guard in Canara Bank, Udupi at present. He used to roam around in his two-wheeler every night, proceed to Vidyaratna Nagar, Perampalli road, Ishwar Nagar road etc where street lights are improperly lit. He used to target women and girls walking alone on the road, sexually harass and touch them and then used to flee. The suspect has confessed that he used to sexually harass female students at Udayavani Press Road when he used to return after work at 6 am also. 

A case under registration number 186/2019 under section 354 IPC has been registered against him in Manipal police station.
