Mangaluru: St Aloysius College Harihar celebrates fun filled 'Aloysia', College Day

Mangaluru, Nov 16: St Aloysius College, Harihar recently conducted an inter-collegiate fest 'Aloysia 2K19' and Annual Day on November 13 for both PUC and High School students.

The chief guest for the day was G C Niranjan, DDPU of Davangere. Other guests were Fr Eric Mathias SJ, superior and principal of Degree College, Sunny Gudino, principal of PU College, Pushpalatha Urs, vice-principal, Fr Pradeep Sequeira SJ and the cultural coordinator, Princy Flavia Pinto.

The day began with the college band welcoming the guests while NCC escorted them to the stage. A welcome dance led by Ananya was followed by a welcome song.

Niranjan in his addressal to the students explained the importance of education and asked them to take their exams seriously.



Sunny Gudino delivered a short speech on the occasion narrating a true story of a boy named Tejus who won a cash prize for a quiz competition. The boy thought of making use of that money in order to build walls for his school and also for the marriage of his sister. The education minister came to know about this and asked Tejus to keep the money for his further studies. The minister sponsored the money for the development of the school. Gudino's message to all the students was to be compassionate.

The formal programme ended with a Vote of thanks.

The college then witnessed various cultural events conducted for both PUC and high school. The students from various colleges actively participated in the different events like group dance, skit, essay writing, treasure hunt, face painting, variety entertainment, quiz, cooking without fire, Science modal, traditional King and Queen etc.

Participation certificate was given to all the participants and all the winners were awarded with Trophies and certificates. Grasim High school won the title of best participating team. The overall championship trophy was announced at evening during the college dayprogramme. Sidaganda PU college won the overall championship.

College Day

Preparations for the annual function were made few weeks in advance. The programme was held at the college premises. The college band welcomed the guests from the gate and NCC escorted the guests to the stage. The guests for the day were S Ramappa, MLA of Harihar taluk, Sridevi Manjappa, president of Harihar taluk panchayat, K B Ramachandrappa, tahsildar of Harihar taluk, Ramakrishna Nayak, head of Continuous Improvement Lead, Cargil India Pvt ltd, Fr Eric Mathias SJ, superior and principal of Degree, Sunny Gudino, principal of PU college, Pushpalatha Urs vice-principal of the college, Fr Pradeeep Sequeira SJ, finance officer of St Aloysius College and Fr Prasanth.

The programme began with a welcome dance led by Shema Israel. The college choir team welcomed the gathering with a soothing song. The student council members along with the cultural coordinator, Princy Flavia Pinto led the dignitaries to the dais. Master ofceremony, Deepthi D’Souza called upon Rashmitha H to welcome the gathering. 'What is to give light must endure burning'. All the dignitaries inaugurated the programme by lighting a lamp. This was followed by felicitation of the guests.

Ramakrishna, head of Continuous Improvement Lead stressed on the fact that education is the backbone of life. He also enlightened the students about the different types of competitive exams. K B Ramachandrappa spoke about the importance of education. In the chief guest's Shimmi Raj, department of English speech, the names of the students who excelled in academics and silver medalist of state level Taekwondo competition were announced. The students were awarded with medals and certificates.

Jayasree, department of Commerce called upon the vice-principal of St Aloysius College, Pushpalatha Urs, non-teaching staff, Bahubali and Shobha for their priceless and compassionate service of more than ten years for the institution. They were felicitated by all the dignitaries on the dais. Overall championship of Aloysia 2K19 which was held on the same day was announced on the occasion.

Sidaganda PU college grabbed the overall championship. The most awaited award of the evening, Aloysius Star Award was announced by Pushpalatha Urs. Macton from second PUC Science and Anusha from second PU Commerce were awarded as the best outgoing students.

An extraordinary visionary and exemplary stalwart, Fr Eric Mathias SJ, superior and principal of St Aloysius College delivered the presidential address. He highlighted three things; first and foremost, he spoke about compassion secondly, concern for the poor and taking care of common home.

The formal programme ended with a vote of thanks which was delivered by Shivkumar MB, department of Kannada.

'Culture can become a secret weapon that makes extraordinary things happen'. The stage was then opened for the cultural programmes. Students from both, first PUC and second PUC actively participated in the programme. Masters of ceremony of cultural events were Amar, Ankitha, Macton and Padmini who made the whole programme lively.
Every class was given a unique theme one month prior to the programme. Students performed on different themes like Effects of Social Media on Youth, Ecology, Hunger, Comedy, Unity in Diversity, Compassion and Cultural Treat of North Karnataka which were a visual treat for the audience. The college choir group mesmerized the audience with an enchanting song. The programme ended with the National Anthem.
