Mangaluru: Girl student falls down from bus, severely injured

Mangaluru, Nov 15: Rajeshwari (19), a nursing student fell down from a private city bus at Bajjodi in the city on the evening of November 13 and is seriously injured.

Rajeshwari, a native of Raichur, is studying nursing at Mangala Nursing College at Neerumarga in the city. On the evening of Wednesday, she was returning to her hostel after the college hours in the private bus. The bus halted at Bajjodi to let the passengers alight. When Rajeshwari, who was also getting down from the bus, the drive moved the bus suddenly. She was thrown on the road as she lost the balance and received grievous injury to her head.

Rajeshwari, who fell unconscious, immediately after she was thrown to the road, is admitted to a private hospital in the city. Traffic East police have registered a case in this regard.

    Very sad.Driver has spoiled her future.Hope she gets well soon.She must have got some brain injury ,to fall unconcious hope no bleeding in brain.These private buses are really a death angels.Simply dont allow passengers to get down fully.Already start the bus.Simply competition to fetch more passengers.on passengers cost .Hope she recovers fast without any complications.They are rude too.They dont drive with a passion but as competition.Senior passengers or any pregnent ladys have to stand by this run and sudden brake ,one never know whether you return safe home.

    How quickly u people judge and decide that its drivers fault. Where as fact is that u dont even know if the student was really correct. I have seen some students alighting the bus with a cell phone in one hand and then falling off. Sometimes I have seen students alighting late bcos they were busy gossiping , sometimes it also may be drivers fault....

    unfortunate incident but who is responsible? Why are we so cold towards wrongdoing? When our people will improve? Even when climbing up bus those steps are so huge that we senior citizens cannot climb up the bus. And those youngsters pushing another story. Ask a healthy young person to vacate a allotted senior citizen place they don't listen. conductors are not bothered. Once i was shown middle finger by a young boy for asking him to give me place in senior citizen place because my both hands were operated. Please concerned authorities bring strict check, just like how you do on two wheelers.
    I am a regular traveller by bus and there are some conductors and drivers very compassionate but wrongdoers number outgrow them.

    The private bus owners are a strong mafia in Udupi and Mangalore
    and there is nothing that the so called LAW can do to bring about
    a change to:
    Drunk driving (check out the customers behind Udupi Municipal Bus stand country bar)
    Overspeeding - these drivers will outshine any foreign driver in a cross country race
    Rash driving - Always barking BEAGA, BEAGA at a STOP and never polite to wait an extra minute
    for those alighting, especially the aged, the sick, the special needs, and school/college children
    Filling buses over the limit capacity
    Racing against other buses
    Not giving way for Emergency Vehicles such as Ambulance, Fire Brigade - in other countries
    all vehicles must YIELD and give way - in Udupi and Mangalore these guys are not taught so.
    and the list can go on
    WHERE ARE THE TRAFFIC COPS is any ones guess!

    Unless the pvt buses are banned and govt bus service started on the lines of BEST in Mumbai innocent people will keep losing their lives!

    This city needs radical development in public infrastructure, which doesn't seem anywhere in sight!

    And they say it's a SMART city!!

    Minimum education for any driver should be graduation, which will not only motivate everybody to go for graduation. Just like, everybody is trying to complete 10th standard to get a ECNR passport. For commercial vehicle drivers there should be some extra syllabus to train them about how to take care of & how to behave with human beings.

    As far as the private lobby is there in the twin districts, the situation will remain the same.

    You will never hear such incidents in any other districts of our state where the govt buses are operating. Moreove, the public in all the other districts of the state are far rigid and get united on the spot.

    Mangagala Ooru public is bujdil. Does not unite and does not make any noise. If one has fallen from the bus, the others will look the other way and see the watch and think when they are going to reach the destination and not the plight of the fallen person.

    In one of the HIndi movies, I think it is Krantiveer, Nana Patekar says, "Aadat pad gayi tum logon ko, sab kuch sehne ki. Bugto aur anachar aur jabardasti ko aur sehte raho. Kabhi sudroge nahin"

    Till the public does not resist, beat and stop the private buses, nothing is going to change in the twin districts. Private buses do operate in Kerala, but the driver and conductors there are very careful as they will be taken to task by the public on the spot.

    Overcrowded private buses are always in a bloody rush to pickup and drop passengers.

    The private bus lobby association should bear her hospital expenses and rehabilitation for creating a system of encouraging conductors and drivers to overfill a bus for their personal gain and extra income.

    Police also dont bother in charging heavy fines to bus owners.
    Am dreading the day I have to come back to india permanently from gulf and get used to horrible system of indian discipline and infrastructure and public apathy of all concerned govt departments.

    On Nov 11, a accident happened in the evening around 5:30 pm near Sai Baba Mandir on Ladyhill - Chilimbi main road where a lady fell down from a moving bus from the rear door. There was blood oozing from her head as her head hit the road first. Thanks to God as there were no fast moving vehicles behind the bus. Many accidents are happening, only some are reported.

    I have always noticed that city bus drivers and conductors are always in a hurry.. whether it's for women or kids or old passengers.. if they take a little extra time to board the bus, they act so rudely.. evenings also most of them dont stop the bus in various stops and even if they do, it's only for a few seconds..
    This is a serious issue.. there must be some speed limit fixed for these.. some action must be taken..
