Udupi, Nov 14: On the occasion of World Diabetic Day 2019, the department of Endocrinology of Kasturba Hospital Manipal organised a mega Diabetic Health Exhibition and Diabetic Screening camp on Thursday November 14.
The theme for the World Diabetic day 2019 was 'Family and Diabetics'. International Diabetic Federation is raising awareness of the impact diabetes has on the family and support network of those affected and promoting the role of the family in the management, care, prevention and education of diabetes.
Mega Diabetes Exhibition and Screening Programme has stalls for departments like Ophthalmology, Cardiology and Nephrology, Physiotherapy and Foot clinic. There was also a free screening of blood sugar and BP and physical examination for all the participants. The programme has benefited more than 15,000 people.
On the occasion, MAHE Manipal vice-chancellor, Dr H Vinod Bhat inaugurated the Manipal Comprehensive Diabetic Care Clinic and said, “This is the need of the community to bring all allied specialties under one roof. Early diagnosis and management will prevent majority of complications. Diabetes will not affect only old people, it may effect even the younger generation due to changed lifestyle."
MAHE Manipal pro-chancellor, Dr H S Ballal inaugurated the Mega Diabetic Health Exhibition and in the presidential address he said, “Awareness about diabetes, prevention and management plays an important role. Diabetes affects all the parts like kidney, heart, brain, foot, eye and other organs. In Manipal Comprehensive Diabetic Care clinic all these services are provided under one roof."
MAHE Manipal pro vice-chancellor, Dr Poornima Baliga said, “it is due to public demand that we have started the Manipal Comprehensive Diabetic Care Clinic, which helps the patients to get treatment for diabetic related care."
Dr Sharath Kumar K Rao, dean, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal welcomed the gathering and Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent, Kasturba Hospital Manipal proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Sahana Shetty, head department of Endocrinology gave an overview on diabetes mega diabetic health exhibition programme and Manipal Comprehensive Diabetic Care Clinic. Dr Shruthi was the masters of ceremony.
