SC grants bail to Chidambaram in INX Media corruption case

New Delhi, Oct 22 (IANS): The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted bail to former Finance minister P. Chidambaram in the INX Media corruption case being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

However, he will remain in Enforcement Directorate custody as he is still under arrest in the INX Media money laundering case.

The order was delivered by a bench of Justices R. Banumathi, A.S. Bopanna and Hrishikesh Roy, which directed him not to leave the country without permission.

The court also directed Chidambaram to furnish a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and two sureties of like amount each.

On October 18, the court had reserved its order on the former minister's plea.

The CBI had opposed Chidambaram's bail plea, saying that he had tried to "pressurise and influence" key witnesses in the INX Media case.

Chidambaram was arrested on August 21, and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in judicial custody.

The CBI has on Friday chargesheeted him with the other accused in the INX Media corruption case.

Mr Chidambaram should sue the pants out of people who cooked up these fake charges and trying the CBI and ED to keep him in jail for more than two months. I hope karma catches up with each and every person involved in the abuse of this elderly person by keeping him in jail.

It is a shame not only on our investigating agencies, but also to the courts itself, where the accused has to spend 61 days in jail, finally the top court says, there is even no whisper of evidence against PC, where he could tamper evidence.

Yes, the bail is given just after polling. The point is clear, it is political and political mileage is already achieved, keeping him in jail.

It will be difficult for anyone to get justice now a days as judiciary is interfered by BJP and exploited by them to imprison their political opponents. They are interfering in Supreme Court appointments. I hope the Supreme Court doesn’t let them to do so as they are the only people who can save the country. DKS will be granted bail only after Karnataka bye election.

Their main witness is Indrani Mukerjea who murdered her own daughter and has been caught lying regularly in court. Just to frame a false charge against Chidamabaram they have pressurised her and pardoned her. This is how our agencies function now.

The agencies opposed bail must present truth now onwards where they don't cooperate with agency in their work. The agencies are wrong in keeping in jail any individual should also be punished fy wrong detainment. If these people got bail dosome unlawful work also be punished severally. At any point of time law should not be misused.the time frame to complete the process is to be given.
