Mumbai, Oct 19: Three Malad youths were booked after tossing a lit matchstick in Krantinagar while returning from a friend's birthday. The matchstick proved to be havoc for 19 families who lost their belongings in a fire on Thursday. Fortunately, the police were able to contain the fire before it spread and caused severe damage.

The police were successful in apprehending two of the three boys, while the pursuit for the third one is still on.

The accused, Himanshu Sharma, Salman Sheikh, Shubham Soni all in their 20s went to a forest to get intoxicated. Before committing the crime, they locked all the doors of the 19 houses, tossed the matchsticks at the window curtains and pushed their motorcycles before walking away.

A Kurar police officer stated that since the lanes are narrow, the fire engines are unable to enter. Luckily, water drums tipped over and doused the fire.
