Kuwait hails women's role in peace, security

Kuwait City, Oct 18 (IANS): Kuwait held a seminar to highlight the role of Kuwaiti women working in the diplomatic corps for security and peace.

The seminar held on Thursday, themed "Role of the Kuwaiti women at the United Nations for security and peace," was hosted by the UN Secretary General Representative and Resident Coordinator to Kuwait Tareq Al-Sheikh in Hawalli Governorate, and attended by a number of Kuwaiti diplomats and representatives of international organisations.

Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, assistant foreign minister for the office of the deputy prime minister and foreign minister of Kuwait, affirmed Kuwait's particular concern for the women's role in development and co-leadership of the society.

A large number of women has recently applied to be enrolled in the diplomatic corps, he revealed.

This reflects the growing role of Kuwaiti women in society, which have contributed significantly to the establishment of Kuwaiti diplomacy and its advancement, he noted.
