Mangaluru, Oct 18: Two identified assailants attacked a rickshaw driver with lethal weapons on the morning of Thursday, October 17 near Neermarga here.

Santhosh (35), a resident of Bittupade is the person who was seriously injured in the attack. He has been admitted to a private hospital and is said to be out of danger.

Santhosh was driving his vehicle from Neermarga towards his house at Bittupade at around 11 am on Thursday. Two scooter-borne assailants suddenly waylaid his rickshaw and attacked Santhosh with sword. Santhosh received grievous injuries to his hands, legs and forehead. The assailants fled from the spot after the attack.

Santhosh, Nitin and Pranesh were close friends and were identified with an organization. Two years ago, Santhosh had backed out from the organization. Santhosh used to oppose certain matters of the organization after he had left it. For the same reason, there was animosity between Santhosh and Nitin from quite some time. On the morning of Thursday also there was a heated verbal argument between both and after a little while Santhosh was attacked.

Nitin and Pranesh, the assailants, who attacked Santhosh, are known rowdy sheeters. Several cases are booked against both in various police stations of the city. Now one more attempt to murder case stands filed against the duo.

A case has been registered in this context in the Mangaluru Rural police station. Police are on the lookout for the assailants who are at large.

Instead of rowdy sheeter parades, a watertight case should be made so that they are convicted.Arrests alone is not at all important, the rate of conviction counts. They should then be paraded in their underwear in the locality where they stay ( not on any ground) so that it deters others from doing crime. This is done in Rajasthan and the crime rate has gone down.
