Morocco's king pardons journalist jailed in abortion case


Rabat, Oct 17 (IANS): Morocco's King Mohammed VI has pardoned a woman journalist Hajar Raissouni, who was sentenced to jail last month for extramarital sex and an illegal abortion.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Justice, the royal pardon was part of the King's "concern to preserve the future" of the journalist and her fiancé who "intended to found a family in accordance with religious precepts and the law".

The King also pardoned granted his pardon to Raissouni's fiancé and the medical team prosecuted in this case, according to MAP news agency.
