Karkala: Cattle stolen in family's presence rescued by locals

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Oct 17: In an incident which happened at a house in Manginar, Hirgana Kanangi near here in broad daylight on Wednesday October 16, thieves took away cattle in the presence of family members. But the timely intervention by locals ensured that the thieves did not harm the cattle and escaped after leaving the stolen cattle behind.

Two cows and a calf tethered in the cattle shed belonging to Jayanti Nayak were stolen in broad daylight. When the family members resisted, the thieves brandished sharp weapons and took away the cattle.

Immediately after the thieves left, Jayanti Nayak called panchayat president, Santhosh Kumar Shetty. Shetty in turn informed the locals and the police. Noticing that the people were moving towards Jayanti Nayak's house in large numbers, the thieves developed cold feet, tethered the cattle inside the forest and succeeded in fleeing.

The police have begun a hunt for the thieves. The police have treated this incident which happened during the day as a challenge and are making all out efforts to trace the culprits. In the meantime, the presence of mind shown by Jayanti Nayak and quick response by the villagers, both of which saved the cattle, have come in for lavish praise.

"When the family members resisted, the thieves brandished sharp weapons and took away the cattle."
In such a situation people may run for cover unless if someone has a revolver or a pistol to shoot on the spot.

Cattle thieves, have become brazenly reckless..... Pilfering Bulls, Cows and calves, in broad day light, indicates their strength n contempt for rule of law. They are backed by a strong lobby, who bail them out.... Stringent laws only will deter these criminals from commiting these diabolic crimes !!!!!

Beaf eaters are never bothered on incidents like this. They unethically support these dacoits without any shame like wolves on dead animals.

My friend much before the anti beef groups started this nonsense beef was freely available and also cattle owners used to allow their cattle to move around feely and one never heard of cattle theft during those days. Many of my neighbours had cows which they used to let out in the morning and all the cows used to return home each evening. Nobody stole cattle then. You are also accusing beef eaters for being responsible for such incidents, but you must also be reading news articles of saffron groups leaders collecting hafta from cattle traders some of whom might also be cow thieves for allowing free movement of cows and beef.
Having said all this, my question is when will this nonsense ever end. The thieves have become so emboldened that they snatch cattle in broad daylight without any fear. What does this tell you? That they surely have god fathers in high positions who protect them. Why are the poor cattle owners made to suffer this way? Why are these thieves not caught and exemplary punishment meted out to them? Why is the law and order machinery keeping its eyes closed?
