Savagely murder of former VC of Alliance University shocks Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Oct 17: Former vice chancellor of Alliance University and politician, Dr Ayyappa Ramappa Dore (53) was hacked to death in a savagely manner by unknown miscreants. The murder happened within the limits of R T Nagar police station. 

Dr Ayyappa had been removed from the post of the vice chancellor of the said university on the allegations of irregularities. His wife had also functioned as vice chancellor. Ayyappa had secured postgraduate degrees in rural development, library, information and commerce. He also held doctorate in business management. 

In the past, the victim had complained to Anti Corruption Bureau against Yediyurappa on the issue of denotification of Shivaram Karanth Extension. He was involved with several social service initiatives and often had embraced controversies. 

On Tuesday night, as usual, Ayyappa had dinner at around 11.30 pm and was on a routine walk on the road by the side of his house when the killers who were perhaps waiting for him suddenly pounced on him, and escaped after killing him with sharp weapons, sources said. His family members were concerned as he did not return for long, and went searching for him. His body was found lying at HMT ground, about 100 meters away from his home. 

City police commissioner, Bhaskar Rao, north division deputy commissioner of police, Shashikumar, and forensic laboratory experts visited the spot and undertook investigation. Shashikumar said that it could not immediately be ascertained how many were involved, and for what reason they killed Ayyappa. He said that investigation from all possible angles would be conducted and the culprits would be arrested soon. 

Dr Ayyappa had functioned also as member of Bangalore University syndicate. He had actively participated in Kalasa Bhanduri agitation. He had formed a new regional party titled 'Jasamanyara Paksha' during the previous assembly election, and had fought as the party's candidate from Muddebihal constituency but was defeated. He was also associated with fight for recognition for separate Lingayat religion. 

It is said that some skirmishes had taken place at Alliance University recently. The initial suspicion of the police is about the possibility of the murder having link with this incident.
