Mangalore: 'Memories of Yesteryear' - a Tribute to Jim Reeves

Mangalore: 'Memories of Yesteryear' - a Tribute to Jim Reeves

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jul 28:  Mangalore Ladies Circle is set to recreate the magic of James Travis Reeves, better known as Jim Reeves (1923-1964), a American songwriter and  singer, who had evolved a delectable blend of pop with country and western music, on the occasion of his 45th death anniversary at 7.30 pm  on Friday July 31, at Bharath Mall in the city.

Ladies Circle has rightly titled the live concert, 'memories of yesteryear', where the memories of the legendary singer will be relived through Jim's sing-alike Max Karkada accompanied by over 15 well-known veteran musicians from the region. With Oscar Weltha on the keyboards, Arun Shiri, Manoj Lazarus, Denzil Karkada and Sunil Kumar on the violin, Rajgopal, Gladson Maben and Jerome Coelho on the guitars, Melwin Fernandes on the drums, Nizel Simon from Kerala and Theo Alwaris from Goa on the trumpets, the nostalgia of the 1950's and 1960s is set to be recreated. Incoming chairperson of Ladies Circle, Sonali Mathias says, the proceeds from the event would be used for charitable projects of the organization.

Immortal hits of Engelbert Humperdinck, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Connie Francis and Patsy Cline promise to enliven the environment at the concert.  Vivian Rodrigues, Ammabel Moras and Angelio Moras will be the crooners with Shailesh Fredericks on voice harmony. Melita D'Souza will compere the show. The dance floor will be open and entry passes will include a free dinner coupon each.  Entry passes are available at Vas Bakery and Sons Bendore, Dinoo's in Kodialbail and Falnir, Weltha's Music Shop in Willys Centre, Romantic at Bharath Mall and Empire Mall, besides Ashiba Signs at Bypass Road, Kankanady in the city.

Starting off as a disc jockey in radio stations besides presenting popular music shows, Jim brought out his own disc called 'Mexican Joe' that became an instant hit. More hits like 'bimbo', 'yonder comes a sucker', 'four walls', 'blue boy' and scores of others followed.  It was on July 31, 1964 that Jim along with his pianist-cum-manager Dean Manuel died in an accident while travelling in a single-engine plane.

Rich and melodious renditions of Jim Reeve's music have always inspired and consoled music lovers across the world and he has a permanent place in the Hall of Fame along with the likes of Paul Robeson, Frank Sinatra, Matt Monroe, Englebert Humperdinck and Tom Jones, besides Elvis Presley.

A press release from Mangalore Ladies Circle said that more details can be had from the website: http://jimfanssouthindia.webs.com.

This show is presented by Mangalore Ladies Circle for charity purpose.

Please please please.. I need to get hold of a collection from Jim Reeves. I do not find it in here. Could someone burn the collection of his greatest songs for me.. I am going to miss this event so badly. I just love Jim Reeves!! Where is Benet Pramodan. Is he gonna come for this event. I've not heard voice so similar to Jim Reeves than Benet''s. Suggestion would be to keep something like this during christmas season. It would be awesome!!
