Mangaluru: Theft in special economic zone - Accused arrested, items seized

Mangaluru, Sep 19: Bajpe police, with whom a case of theft had been registered, succeeded in taking main accused into custody and confiscating a part of the stolen items. The operation in this connection was undertaken on August 19 and reported to the police on August 21. As per the complaint, 601 cable glands worth Rs 2,11,436 were stolen.

Evio Pvt Ltd, which undertakes electric jobs on contract basis, has been functioning in Mangalore Special Economic Zone. The equipment relating to electric contract were kept inside a temporary shed by the concern and locked. On the night of August 20 this year, thieves had broken open the lock of the shed and reportedly stolen 601 cable glands.

The police who registered a case, based on reliable information, took into custody Vijay (35), son Laxman Poojary from Shantigudde, Bajpe here, and Puneet (28), son of Neelayya Belchada, resident of Shantigudde, Bajpe, from Melkar. They were brought to the police station and questioned. On the basis of information provided by them, 278 cable glands worth Rs 80,000 were recovered. A pickup truck bearing registration No. KA 19 A 6463 used for theft was also seized.

Another accused, Shamir from Shantigudde, had been arrested on August 25 this year, and 30 cable glands and a pickup truck were seized from his possession.

The probe which lasted about a month was conducted by Bajpe police inspector K R Nayak, police sub-inspectors Sathsih M P and Kamala, assistant sub-inspector Rama Poojary and others.
