Tinsukia, Sep 17 (IANS): Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma here on Tuesday refused to cut a cake to celebrate the 69th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also resisted Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal from it as the cake had a photograph of the Prime Minister.

The BJP workers had brought the cake with much joy at the Gulab Chandra Natya Mandir, here. Sarma, however, stepped aside the moment knife was brought to cut the cake and said he couldn't do so as there was a photograph of Modi on it.

"We thought of cutting a cake on the occasion of Modi's birthday. But the cake-maker put an image of the Prime Minister on it, out of love. We can't cut the cake as it would involve cutting the photograph of our dear leader," Sarma said.

Sarma also said the Prime Minister gave priority to offering 'seva' then cutting cake on his birthday. "Modiji has asked all the BJP workers that if you really want to celebrate my birthday then do it by serving the society," Sarma said.

Both Sarma and Sonowal was here to lay the foundation stone of a railway overbridge at Sreepuria Road. Sarma said the overbridge was a gift on Modi's birthday.

When did the cutting cake for the Prime Minister birthday become Indian culture for RSS political wing BJP, since years in ruling rejected the 'Valentine day' celebrations?

This BJPs Finance Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma: The Amit Shah of the Northeast, as he is called, Himanta Biswa Sarma was once a member of the Congress party and faced corruption charges. The BJP had waged a full campaign, even releasing a booklet, accusing Sarma of being the “key suspect” in the water supply scam in Guwahati. The scam is known as the Louis Berger case because of the involvement of the American construction management company. There’s even a charge sheet by the US Department of Justice under the country’s Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, alleging that the company paid bribes to an unnamed minister. From claiming that the minister was Sarma to inducting him into the party, the BJP came a long way. The Assam government has predictably gone slow on the investigations, and the BJP hasn’t followed up with its own old demand to hand over the case to the CBI.

Why this politicians with corruption charges CBI and ED won’t raid?
