Mangaluru, Aug 24: A seminar was held at Mahesh High School, here to create awareness amongst students and society on dangers of consuming tobacco products.

A J Institute Dr Pooja Shetty and Dr Shresta Shetty were the guests of honour. Dr Pooja in discussion with students said that Nicotine in tobacco is disastrous. “The attractive packets in which the products are packed attract young people. Consuming them causes problems of kidney, lungs, heart, throat, mouth and teeth. About 4,000 chemicals are released by a single cigarette. Some of them can cause cancer. Those who do not smoke but inhale smoke exhaled by others also are at risk. Therefore, the government of India has banned smoking in public places,” she said.

“Spitting out Gutka everywhere spoils our health and environment. Therefore, buying and sale of tobacco products for those below 18 years is banned. Signboards in the school vicinity and street plays can create awareness in society,” she said.

Another guest, Dr Shresta explained ways of personal hygiene. Deepali Shenoy of the organization presided over the programme. Students Ayan welcomed the gathering, Krishak rendered the vote of thanks, Prathik N P compered the programme, Hussaif Mohammed introduced the guests.
