Sharjah, Aug 21: Throwing out waste from balconies in the emirate will cost AED 500 starting August 20.

Sharjah Municipality has warned residents that they will be fined AED 500 if found throwing garbage or any other waste from their balconies.

As reported in Khaleej Times, head of the city cleanliness control section, Sharjah Municipality, Mohammed Ali Al Kaabi, said, "The move is meant to protect the scenic image of the city in a sustainable way."

"Some reckless people turn a blind eye to rules and regulations. The civic body has received several complaints from residents about their neighbours carelessly dumping waste from balconies in high-rise buildings," Al Kaabi added.

Sharjah municipality has requested landlords to put up posters and signs in their buildings to warn against this illegal practice.
