Bengaluru, Aug 20: MLA Madhu Swamy, who defended the BJP MLAs during the confidence motion moved by former CM Kumaraswamy, caused an embarrassment to himself and the party, while he said 'I take oath as chief minister' instead of saying only minister.

During the last days of the former coalition government, heated debate had taken place in the legislative assembly during the confidence motion discussion proposed by former CM H D Kumaraswamy. When the experienced leaders of Congress and JD(S) used to refer the law books and then put forth their arguments, BJP MLA of Chikkanayakanahalli in Tumakuru district, Madhu Swamy used to defend BJP on all their allegations by counter arguments.

Even the members of the ruling party were taken aback by the orating style of Madhu Swamy, who has immense knowledge of law. It was confirmed that Madhu Swamy would definitely get a berth in the cabinet of CM Yediyurappa. Accordingly, Madhu Swamy was sworn in as the minister for the first time.

Madhu Swamy, in the anxiety of the moment, said, "I am taking oath as the chief minister,' instead of saying only minister. This embarrassed him as well as the other audience, who were present during the oath taking ceremony. Madhu Swamy, who immediately got alerted by the error, corrected the same. However, people on the dais and the audience kept on laughing for quite some time. Reciprocating to the audience, Madhu Swamy also completed his oath taking smilingly.
