LS hears public importance matters in night sitting


New Delhi, Jul 19 (IANS): The Lok Sabha on Thursday sat till late night to hear matters of urgent public importance.

A total of 162 parliamentarians participated in the Zero Hour proceeding of the House that ended at 10.48 p.m.-- extended to four hour and 48 minutes of its general timing.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla extended the time of the House to hear the matters during the Zero Hour, which generally comes after the Question Hour or at the end of the House proceesings.

Matters of urgent public importance to be raised in the House during Zero Hour on July 12, 13 and 17 were put before the lower House, a source said.

It was the third time when the proceeding of the 17th Lok Sabha was extended till late night. Earlier, the House sat till late night on July 9 and July 11 for debate on general Budget and Rail Budget respectively.
