Mangaluru, Jul 18: The city was put out of gear on the morning of Thursday, July 18 due to the sudden onset of monsoon showers, that started at around 8 am which had subsided for two days.

Areas near Central Railway Station, M G Road, Jail Road and Shree Gujarati English Medium School near Kudroli had to bear the brunt of the situation due to heavy waterlogging.

The roads approaching Central Railway station were completely submerged in water. The water even entered the platform and cloakroom of the station. Commuters arriving and departing from the station had a tough time.

Low lying areas of M G Road and near Empire Mall were affected by the waterlogging and traffic was disrupted as the road could not be seen by the motorists. Fire service personnel tried to bring the situation under control by pumping the water out from the roads.

The road leading to Shree Gujarati English Medium School, which was badly affected during the flood that had hit the city in May of 2018, was completely submerged in water. People had to wade in knee-length water in order to reach the school and cross the roads.

The intensity of the rain, however, reduced at around 11 am. Fire service and other personnel of MCC are clearing the blocks and waterlogging that affected parts of the city.

One rain and everything submerged in water. Low lying areas need be provided with drains for the flow of rain water otherwise every time it rains, condition will be the same.

Our corrupt engineers have not learnt from last year's heavy rains, specially on the 29th May 2018 the day when Mangalore experienced heavy rain. Outside City Center KS Rao road, why cannot the MCC rectify the problem permanentaly? There is no proper footpath on KS Rao road some places were there is footpath it is in level to the road and difficult for pedestrians to walk when it rains heavily. The central railway station is a big disgrace. What has happened to Smart city?
