Mangaluru: Suratkal tollgate - Local private cars to pay toll from July 16

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 12: It will be mandatory for KA 19 registration private cars to pay a minimum toll of Rs 25 for one time access through Suratkal tollgate from July 16. Monthly pass will cost Rs 265 for unlimited usage.

The deputy commissioner (DC) has sent an information letter to the police commissioner of Mangaluru to provide suitable police protection for this particular toll collection.

Keshav Agarwal Company, which had taken the contract for collecting toll in the Suratkal tollgate recently, is incurring a loss of Rs 1.5 to 2 lac per day. It had written a letter to the administration to allow toll collection from local private cars also in order to reduce their losses.

The chairman of NHAI had written a letter in this regard to the chief secretary of the state and had asked to provide required arrangements and police protection to the Suratkal tollgate personnel. Accordingly, the chief secretary of the state has instructed on July 1, through video conferencing, the DC of Dakshina Kannada district and highway officer to make arrangements for the same.

The contract company had bid for a huge amount for the contract, keeping in mind the movement of umpteen times of the private cars, including local registration ones, through the toll gate every day. At present, the local KA 19 registration cars up to a distance of 20 kilometers from the tollgate can take a monthly pass for Rs 265 and use the tollgate as many times as required. If monthly pass is not there, then Rs 25 needs to be paid for every trip across the tollgate.

Earlier, the district administration had instructed the tollgate contractor to waive off the toll collection for local vehicles. Now, due to the losses incurred by the toll company, NHAI has given instructions to collect minimum fee. So it will be mandatory for the locals to pay the toll fee from July 16.

Kindly see that you give public the necessary road safety conveniences from your side, roads are pathetic,no dividers at some dangerous curves, trucks and heavy vehicles move at all odd times on the road instead tgey can run at specific times only, express buses are always at competion more than rendering public service,no speed limit control, animals are simply run over without ethics.....with all these not done how can toll be made a compulsion now? Are we all paying to lose our loved ones on the streets?

Instead of DC giving order to collect toll from local, he shud order to remove the toll gate itself as its against the law, the toll gate comes within the Suratkal corporation limit area... As per rules ther shud not be any toll in city corporation limits of any city and between two toll gates minimum of 60 km gap to be maintained ther another toll at hejmady which is within 10 km distance. And Suratkal to MANGALORE roads are in worst condition now and not worth paying any toll.

The highway for which we pay toll at Suratkal is an insult for the word highway. The tollgate is even worse, looks more like an extortion centre.
Why doesnt the NHAI Chairman and Chief secretary first find out whether the highway and tollgate adhere to any basic quality norms before asking police to provide protection.
    Such a sorry state

I think you withdrew the amount before the 5years period as set by the government. Withdrawal after 5years is not taxed.

It wont mind even to increase toll fees in suratkal. Public ke paas bahut paisa hai to invest in ponzi schemes and spend on liquor and meat daily. Government should confiscate all wealth of people and use it for development. Latter on fix some money for each family and to be paid monthly by government on everybody's account. New Digital India. It's how works in russia.
