Mumbai, Jul 5: On June 19, a heist took place where over 20 kg of gold worth Rs 6.6 crore was stolen. The gold was being transported from a security van to a bank vault in Zaveri Bazar. A 27-year-old man who allegedly stands accused for his involvement in the heist was arrested in this regard.

The victim of the heist had registered a cased at the L T Marg Police station, regarding his 200 gold bars that were stolen from the van when it stopped near the bank. When one of the loaders of the gold bars disappeared suddenly, security personnel of the bank intimated the victim.

The police managed to arrest the perpetrator when they found evidence on him. Over 13 kg of gold, worth Rs 4.29 crore was confiscated by the cops. Following the arrest, the accused claimed that he was quite keen on joining the police force in the past.

With the CCTV footage obtained, police were able to discover that the disappeared loader was passing the bag of gold to a second man down the lane and the second man then passed the bag onto a third man standing further down the lane. The images of the accused were rendered and circulated among police informants.

The cell number of the loader which was obtained by the cops was put on technical surveillance. After being inactive for more than a week, the police were able to apprehend the accused when his cellphone turned active. Unfortunately, the number led the police to another accused, rather than the loader.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajiv Jain stated that the crime could be part of a 'huge conspiracy'. Among the accused three were from Mumbai and one was from Uttar Pradesh. The police said that they were still on the lookout for others who were involved in the crime.
