Panaji: Over 1,488 packages seized in raid by metrology department

Panaji, Jun 27: Several food packets were seized in a raid conducted by the department of legal metrology. On Wednesday, over 1,488 packages of Patanjali Aastha Dhoop were seized by inspector of legal metrology, Gulam Gulburg, Mapusa. The reason being, smudging and altering the maximum retail price of the product.

Meanwhile, 50 packages of Patanjali Aastha Dhoop packages were seized elsewhere by inspector of legal metrology, Demu Mapari, Margao.

A wine shop at Savarfond in Sancoale was booked by Nitin Purushan, inspector of legal metrology, Vasco. A consumer complaint regarding the overpricing led the inspector to book a case against the shop. The seller charged more than the MRP for a 500 ml can of Kingfisher draught beer.

In addition, 4,000 facial tissues were confiscated by inspector Shubert D’Costa of legal metrology, Curchorem. The tissue boxes were seized because they were packed without the packer’s registration certificate.
