Doha: Bunts Qatar celebrates World Environment Day

Doha, Jun 26: More than 150 children and adults took part in Bunts Qatar’s maiden 'World Environment Day' celebration by participating in drawing, Team Best out of waste, Clay Modelling and Green Quiz competitions which was held on June 14. Ooredoo was the main sponsor of the event.

Highlight of the prize distribution ceremony was presence of Green Oscar Awardees, conservationist, wildlife photographers from India ‘Krupakar-Senani’ and ‘Green Quiz’ perhaps first time in Doha organized by any socio-cultural organization hosted by well-known quizzer Arun Kumar. Chief guests of honour ‘Krupakar-Senani’ were felicitated by Bunts Sangha and all other Karnataka based organisations.

Deepak Shetty, president of Bunts Qatar emphasized on the need for having such events to educate the children about environment and its sustainability.



The closing ceremony was graced by ICC president Manikanthan as chief guest, Avinash Gaikwad, GS of ICBF and Dr Nishakantha Shetty, executive committee member of Bunts Sangha Bengaluru as guests of honour. Krupakar-Senani spoke on conservation efforts they undertook and spoke in detail about the wildlife movie on Indian dholes which fetched them Green Oscar award. During the Q&A session they answered many aspects of life of wildlife photographers and their encounter with Veerappan in the late 90’s.

Chief Guest Manikanthan, guests of honour Avinash Gaikwad, GS of ICBF and Dr Nishakantha Shetty, executive committee member of Bunts Sangha Bengaluru appreciated the initiative of Bunts Qatar.

After the qualifying round of written quiz, six teams made it to the finals. Finals of Green Quiz had six rounds. In the end, Vimal Prasad and Nandini Nautiyal emerged victorious, followed by Raghavendra K S and Manasi Somayaji in 2nd place.

Ashwin Shetty, GS , Manohar Shetty, secretary, Major Events and environment secretary and Navneeth Shetty, chairman of Advisory Board and immediate past president were on the dais along with Chaitali Shetty who hosted the evening programme. Ravi Shetty, founder president, Ramachandra Shetty , management committee member of ICC, Dr Padmashri Shetty, Supriya Shetty, Nithyanand Shetty, Swaroop Shetty, Akshini Shetty, Venkat Rao, president KSQ, Asmath Ali, president Tulukoota, Ibraiz Khan, president, KMCA, Abdul Majeed, president, SKMWA, Sunil D’Silva, president, MCC, Raghunath Anchan, president, Qatar Billavas, V S Mannangi, past president, KSQ, Arun Kumar, past president, KSQ, Prabhakar, past president, KSQ, Diwakar Poojary, past president, Tulukoota, Kiran Anand, VP, Tulukoota, Sandeep Reddy, GS, KSQ and many present and past office bearers of all Karnataka based associations were present.
