Bengaluru, Jun 25: After eight months, the department of primary and secondary education got a minister. The department was with the chief minister during the last eight months.

Gubbi Srinivas, who was minister for small scale industries, has been given primary and secondary education department. His small scale industries department has been allotted to newly inducted minister, H Nagesh. R Shankar, who joined the ministry recently, has got the department of municipal administration.

As per the recommendation of chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, state governor, Vajubhai Vala, issued orders, allocating the above departments to three ministers. With this, the two independent MLAs who were made ministers on June 14 got portfolios on June 24, after a gap of ten days.

The department of education was with the chief minister since N Mahesh from the BSP, who was a part of the coalition government, resigned during October last. It may be recalled that a number of leaders including JD(S) state president, H Vishwanath, had expressed themselves against the chief minister's decision of not allotting this department exclusively to a minister.
