Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai (SHP)

Mumbai, Jun 25: A list was recently compiled by BMC, which included all those individuals who are defaulters of water bill. The shock factor on the list was the name of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’s official bungalow, Varsha.

The CM’s bungalow in Malabar Hill, was one among the several other defaulters on the list. There were dozen other ministerial bungalows who made it on the list bringing the amount to a total of Rs 8 crore.

An outstanding amount of Rs 7 lac was to be paid on Fadnavis’s bungalow. Defending the case, the Public works department (PWD) stated that the bill was paid in November and the outstanding amount was only Rs 3.78 lac. Further, PWD explained that because the payment was done in November the amount has not been recorded.

According to an official, there are multiple metres in the residence. In the CM’s official residence there are six metres which are for different residences within the premises, including staff quarters. The PWD said bills were issued in the name of the bungalow and not in the name of the person, it is the body that manages all the government bungalows.

The list of water charge defaulters on BMC's website show different sections of society liable for the payment, from railways to housing societies. The total amount estimated is over Rs 2,000 crore.
