Government wants to take all on development's path: Nadda

New Delhi, Jun 24 (IANS): BJP Working President J.P. Nadda on Monday said that the Narendra Modi government had come with the mantra of "sab ka saath, sab ka vikas" and now will move ahead with "sabka vishwas (everyone's trust)".

Initiating the debate in the Rajya Sabha on the motion of thanks to the President's address, he said that the mantra only shows that the government wants to take all sections of the society along with it.

He said the government is dedicated to the downtrodden and it is working towards their uplift.

Urging the house for cooperation, Nadda said: "In the last five years, there were many disruptions in the House. In democracy we agree to disagree, but we should not disagree just to disagree. There should not be opposition for the sake of opposition."

Stating that the Modi government was committed to the welfare of the country's farmers, he said: "When we talk of farmers we don't do lip service but work to bring farmers to the mainstream of development."

He noted that it was the Modi government that increased the Minimum Support Price one and half times.

Nadda also cited the various schemes the government had launched for the poor, and also said it had given special emphasis for bringing the northeast, which was earlier neglected, into the mainstream.

On the PM's ambitious Swachh Bharat Mission, he said it had become a national movement, with toilets going up from 38 per cent to 99.2 per cent. "The Prime Minister, through this mission, gave respect to women."

He said under the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) more than Rs 7.3 lakh crore have been disbursed to the poor through different government schemes, while saving around Rs 1.4 lakh crore.

Nadda, who was the Health Minister in the first Modi government, also said that in the last five years, the government has given importance to health, and mentioned Ayushman Bharat and how the poor have benefited from it.

Pointing the increased number of seats, the BJP and the NDA has won in 2019 as compared to 2014, he said that the people of the country have given the government a huge mandate and they would be working towards fulfilling all the promises.

Noting the number of international awards to the Prime Minister, Nadda said that these awards were not given to Modi but to the country.
