Mangaluru Jun 20: Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner (DC) Sasikanth Senthil urged district farmers to avail benefits from the schemes introduced by the government.

Addressing media here on Thursday, June 20, Senthil said, "Pradhan Mantri Kisan programme has been introduced by the government. Under this scheme, farmers can avail Rs 6,000 every four months in three phases. I urge all district farmers to enroll themselves for this scheme and benefit from it. There are over 2 lac active farmers in the district and all should utilize the benefits of this scheme. To get enrolled, farmers can approach gram panchayat, village accountant and Raitha Samparka Kendra in their respective areas. Once the farmers enroll, the amount will be credited to their accounts. However, the farmers should enroll before June 25,” he said.

“There are schemes such as weather based insurance for horticulture crops. This is a beneficial scheme and since two years the scheme is in process. We have fixed some strike period depending upon weather condition such rain occurring for continuous 5 days or no rain for continuous 5 days. This is the strike period we have marked. There is nothing like a farmer getting more or less yield. The insurance totally depends on the weather. Farmers can claim the insurance for horticulture crops such as areca,” he added.

“In 2016-17, as many as 5,700 farmers enrolled for the weather based insurance and in the year 2018-19 as many as 940 farmers enrolled for the same. There is no human interference in this scheme. It is only based upon the weather conditions,” said Sasikanth Senthil.

“Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bheema Yojana is a normal insurance scheme for agricultural crops. We will look into the yield. If the yield is less than average, then the farmer can claim the insurance. The premium is around Rs 1,100 per hectare or Rs 440 per acre,” informed DC.

“After the property card was implemented, we have been getting positive response. There is good response from builders, land record dealers and stake holders. This is a proactive scheme and people have benefited from this scheme. We are putting in additional facilities, website support to avail property card. There is no urgency to avail property card. So far out of 1, 53,466 properties and 28,584 draft PR cards have been distributed and 22,206 final PR cards have been distributed,” he informed.

“District disaster management has chalked out plans to face the upcoming monsoon. We have conducted meeting for the same. A 24x7 control room has been set-up. People can call toll-free number 1077 or send messages on WhatsApp number 9483908000 if any damages occur or anyone faces any kind of problems during this monsoon,” said Sasikanth Senthil.

Every Panchayath member should go & visit the farmers or conduct a meeting of around 10 houses to educate & inform & to enroll to avail the benefits of Kisan Yojanas at their doorstep. Before that every panchayath member should have thorough knowledge about the schemes. Most of the members are not even SSLC passed, what do they know, understand about Yojanas, schemes. They know only about caste, religion etc...etc.. They never visit once they are elected same applies to all elected representatives. Farmers should be encouraged to enroll in all the government benefits across the country.
