Mangaluru: Police undertake surprise checks in bars for anti-social elements

Mangaluru, Jun 20: The police conducted surprise checks in leading bars of the city with the aim of finding out the presence of anti-social elements.

The checks were conducted by the police as a precaution against occurrence of unsavoury incidents, and to check for the presence of drugs and other intoxicants, lethal weapons which might lead to violent incidents, etc, it is gathered.

The police say that since sometime, the menace of drunkards and hooligans has increased in front of bars. There has been a steady rise in the number of incidents involving drunk people raising a din near the bars. This creates disturbance for the people. Moreover, some miscreants have been misleading youngsters in the city with the help of drugs and lethal weapons. There have been a number of complaints about these things.

The police check against this backdrop in bars in the city is an appreciable move, the people of the city in general feel.
