Drinking on Goan beaches to be banned, govt to implement new authority

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji (SR)

Panaji, Jun 20: Goa Tourism Development Corporation’s chairman Dayanand Sopte said that the government will soon establish an authority that will have the power to implement the ban on littering and drinking on Goan beaches.

Goa cabinet had amended Registration of Tourist Trade Act earlier this year, which had banned drinking and littering on the beaches. As per the amended act, there is a fine of Rs 2,000 or imprisonment for upto three years for violating the ban.

Sopte said, “There is a law and now we have to find out how to implement it. I will be discussing this issue with chief minister Pramod Sawant. Few tourists were found spoiling the name of Goa by indulging in littering and drinking on the beaches, which should be stopped permanently.” he added.
