Mangaluru: Twin-districts drench in rain - Water supply position comfortable

Mangaluru, Jun 20: Both Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts received widespread rainfall on Wednesday June 19. The rain continued through Wednesday night.

During the day, the rainfall was intermittent with several breaks in between. The meteorological department has predicted good rainfall to continue for two more days.

As water inflow has been good, drinking water is being pumped from Baje dam continuously to Udupi city, said local MLA, K Raghupati Bhat. 'Madhwa Sarovar' pond located in Krishna Math premises, where desilting operation had been undertaken recently, has filled to the brim.

During the 24-hour period ended 8.30 am on Wednesday, Agumbe recorded highest rainfall of 10 cm. Most of the areas in the coast got between five and seven cm of rainfall.

The meteorological department has predicted rain at some places of southern interior Karnataka and some more places in north interior Karnataka.

    Rainfall has been drastically deficient this year which will have severe water word next year unless something radical, but I think the authorities will wake up only when there is a catastrophe! WHAT a SMART city we are developing?

    To put light.....karnatka is not an developed state like gujarat...where in 24 hours electricity available. Here even during india australia match they remove power. Backward state...are good only in doing illegal activities. Still mansoor absconding.

    Udupi may be more suited to be capital...because Udupi is well known because of Udupi restaurants throughout the world and also because Udupi is having famous Krishna Mutt (800 years old)...however this can be further discussed as and when Tulunaadu state emerges....
