Udupi, Jun 10: This is the time when graduate students are eagerly waiting to get jobs. Many companies, through their agents or through direct recruitment, try to hire best candidates for their firm. Many online placement agencies come up every day.

There are some web portals which help firms and job applicants to fulfill their needs. But the clients who post jobs in their websites are not genuine. There are many cases where job seekers lost their money too.

A similar incident came to light in the city. A girl, who completed her graduation and very much eager in search of job according her qualification. She found a job in online website named Quickr.com. A company called Global Digital Technology Pvt Ltd is offering cashier and accountant post. The applicant signed in and uploaded required details. She later received a call to share marks card and Aadhar card through WhatsApp. She was also asked to credit Rs 1,200 to a bank account.

Once she paid money online, she received another call from a lady who said, ‘The concerned person will send offer letter. Only then you can join our company’. The applicant waited for two days for offer letter, but did not receive it. Interestingly, her friends also applied for the job and received calls asking money. The caller had given a proper address of the branch. On checking, it was found to be an under construction building. The job applicant filed a complained at CEN crime station, Udupi.

Inspector of CEN Sitharam said, “Youths should be careful while dealing with online transactions. Lot of scammers are looking for desperate youths to make use of our helplessness. Better confirm the existence of company within friends before investing money.”

Raghavendra Kini, leader said, “Today youths are depending on online for everything. Udupi is an educated district and youngsters should be careful when money matter come.”

Job posing websites themselves say ‘Beware of fraud agents, do not pay money to get a job’, but still fraud takes place.

According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, India’s unemployment rate in April 2019 shot up to 7.6%, the highest since October 2016. Combined with easy accessibility of the Internet, this has come as a boon for job scammers.

It always better and safe check out in company's official websites.

Students, fresh out of college, from one of the thousands of engineering colleges in small towns, are easily trapped. While some fraudsters disappear as soon as they get the money. In some cases applicants can think it was a small amount, but even if they dupe 5% of job-seekers, they make a lot of money.

Also OLX same case. I had posted a AD for my guitar for sale. One guy by name Mr.Philip Whatsupp messaged me that he is US army guy and he said he wants to buy it for his friend studying in Mysore. He sent is ID as a foreigner with US visa etc. Then he said I should contact his courier guy from Delhi to send guitar. I got a mail from some Appex Courier that I should deposit Rs 7000 as courier charges to process documents. I told Mr.Philip to give his son's mobile number from Mysore so that I can talk to him. He was not ready for this and he never replied or called me afterthat. Like wise many frauds are in market for both sellers and buyers in Quickr and also OLX. Be carefull. Work face to face.
