Second coast guard vessel launched in Goa Shipyard

Panaji, May 26: The second in the series of offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) for the Indian Coast Guard, Sujeet, was launched by Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) on May 25. The vessel was launched by Seema Mittal, wife of the controller general of defence accounts Sanjiv Mittal.

In the series of offshore patrol vessels, the first one was launched three months earlier on February 21 by former defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Coast guard commander (Western Seaboard) additional director general K Natarajan, flag officer Goa area rear admiral Philipose G Pynumootil, director general of Goa police Prabnav Nanda and chairman and managing director of GSL commodore B B Nagpal and various other senior dignitaries were present at the ceremony.

The ongoing shipbuilding project for five offshore patrol vessels is one of the biggest orders being executed by GSL for the Indian Coast Guard.
