Voices rise in Congress for organisational changes

By Sumit Saxena

New Delhi, May 23 (IANS): With the Congress suffering another debacle in the Lok Sabha elections, demands have started to grow about making big organisational changes in the grand old party.

A Congress leader from Uttar Pradesh, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the party continued to depend heavily on the decision-making of the senior leaders in the organisation.

"Look at the BJP, they benched leaders above the age of 75 and gave chance to several young faces. They did a major streamlining in the party structure and it helped them organise a professional campaign during the elections. Why can't the Congress do something similar," he asked.

A young party worker said the party's campaign should have been more enthusiastic, touching the people at the grassroots.

"The results show that we need to make the youth more politically relevant. Give them a chance at least. Also, change the leadership, which simply could not get us anywhere in this election," he said, wishing not to be named.

The party worker further said that more new faces should have contested the elections. He also said that the party needed an ideological refocus and big changes.

"Cosmetic exercises will not do," he said.

The party workers were deeply disappointed with the results and some of them were at a loss of words to spell out the reasons for the party's dismal performance.

Youth need to take lead and be active in politics and senior leaders to guide them if the party wants to rebuilt its old glory.

Fairly disappointed with the results..I feel following measures will bring back golden era of Congress..

1)Forget Ghatbanden..Contest on own..Congress is the only party that can garner votes and topple BJP.

2)Keep Rahul as president..He has improved vastly...Bring on capable youngsters.

3)Forget minority appeasement..Treat all as one...Primary reason for debacle in Karnataka is joining with JDS n minority appeasement by Siddaramaih..Forget Shaadi Bhagya any any other incentives which oppose others..

4)Forget blaming only Modi....Just concentrate on failures of BJP..

Mark my words..If followed above, there will be major improvement in coming state results.

Rahul still lacks political maturity and off late tries to be smart. He might look sincere but does not seem to be fit for top position.
Leading a national party is not a joke. Sonia was still a better decision maker than Rahul.

Congress party is caught in a bitter conflict between the Gandhi family and choosing a strong person from outside for the top post. The moment they choose from outside the infighting grows within the party. Gandhi family is also scared of loosing the hold on party.

Wherever they have come to power in state it is mainly because of state level leaders and not due to central leadership. Punjab, Kerala, MP, Rajasthan are all good examples.

Central leadership needs a major revamp for the congress survival. Otherwise state level units might split from central and might form their own regional party. NCP, TMC , TRS, Jagans party are good examples of the same which has damaged congress in Maharashtra, WB , Telengana and Andhra. They are loosing state by state like this.

Rahul Gandhi is a very nice person but he is definitely not fit to be in politics. His PR skills are very low and even his IQ level doesn't match to the level of a party president.. And this is the bitter truth... Once again I am saying there so many dynamic leaders in Congress. Congress have to come out of Gandhi Dynasty and God only knows how they got that surname .

Surprisingly even now nobody in the party has guts to openly demand for leadership change. They only speak on condition of anonymity.

They should have done this 15 years ago. Pranab Mukherjee was a very good candidate to lead the country or the party at that time.
No chance for leaders from outside the family to come up.
Otherwise there are some good young leaders like Sindhya and Pilot.

But rise the voices to EC next election should be on ballot paper but no to electronics machines.
Make mandatory Aadhar card linked to voter ID to avoid duplicate votes.
Those who are wasting time for the voting and clik on NOTA it should be banned.

The BJP strategy has been to stage manage spectacular mega events just before the elections and extract maximum political milage be it Demonitisation, the flawed GST Implimintation, the ghost of a surgical strike before the previous state elections in UP or the recent air strike at Bagalkot. The congress and the opposition fell in their trap by demanding proof of the air strikes that was actually a dummy run with payload on vacant lands in POK.

What the Congress and the oppositon failed was to demand accountability of the failures in preventing the massacre of over 50 CRPF Jawans . Even till today the country is in the dark as to who and how was an attack of such magnitude carried out and above all who is responsible including the conspirators within and outside Kashmir. Who is responsible for such an intelligence failure that cost the lives of 50 brave jawans. We have been glaoting over the fact that we informed Sri Lanka in advance about the terrorist attack that killed over 300 Sri Lankans but how come we failed in getting intelligence in our own backyard where our personnel are deployed 365 days in a year.

Obviously the Congress and the opposition were barking over the wrong tree and the BJP took political advantage of the tragedy that was their sole responsibility. The country still does not know how could such an attack be carried out with such impunity and with no accountability. Will the congress and the opposition atleast at this stage demand the details of all investigations so that the families of the deseased jawans will feel vindicated that the govt has ensured accountability and all guilty have been punished.

The country deserves a strong opposition.

Let us all be frank and accept the facts. The biggest mistake is Congis underestimated Modi and Shah. RaGA proved to be a star campaigner of BJP. With all the baseless allegations like 'Chowkidhar Chor hain', 'Anil Ambani looted' etc and stating ten different amounts in 10 places. Had he once approached court people would have taken him seriously . RaGa went on to such an extent that even the Congis ever eventually fed up and started hating him . Modi and team did not react as it was obvious RaGa was digging the Congi grave himself. Eventually one statement from Modi shut the RaGa and sheepishly he changed his aggressive stance and started speaking about 'love'. Anyways the story is Cong will never revive with this leadership. A 9 or 10 seat increase is not significant growth. Cong can forget 2024 as well.

There is a lot of waste baggage in the Congress, people who are loyal to Sonia Gandhi and who do nothing of significance. Names that readily come to mind are of people from our neighbouring district - Verappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes. There may be so many others too. Rahul should get more grooming - he is improving - and he should get rid of these oldies. People at the grass roots level are not up to the mark. They are too lethargic and have a laid back attitude. The Congress badly needs people with great organisational skills. They need a shrewd schemer. Someone like Amit Shah.

    All these things now ?
    When the horse has bolted?
If you run your party as a private enterprise it might run for some time ,but ultimately it will conk.
if it a party of the 'people' where anybody can shine through sheer hard work and determination the it will sustain.
Grass root workers are important for any political parties now.
It cannot be run on whims and fancies of individuals.
If non performers are rewarded and the deserving shown the door ..this is what happens..

Congress needs to learn from its mistakes and in need of a major reorganisation moving away from "G" . It's Sonia Gandhi who ruined the party with holding on to the reigns without making way to other leaders to lead the party. Now the old song of Congress will not work with the youth of the country whose aspirations are beyond the good old basics Roti, Kapda and Makaan. It's time that younger generation in the party takes on the leadership to revive the party with new strategy.

Congress senior leaders with motor mouths should resign. Sachin Pilot and Scindia should be replaced as CM of MP and Rajasthan. Else expect a big ZERO in coming election.

Rahul Gandhi should listen to people instead of senior congress leaders who are the reason behind this situation of congress. Feel sorry for Rahul..

Yes. First change the full system of the organisation. Give chance to young qualified party workers. Keep Nehru family out of power. Surely the good days definitely will come. Ups and downs always in any organisation. Face it.

When the Congress party was doing its worst, they begged the Mrs. Gandhi to lead the party. She was very reluctant, but she eventually caved in for the good of the country. Rahul will now step aside as its proved twice that he is not competent to lead a party to victory as he has lost his credibility though a smear campaign by the opposition. Some one new will replace him who has more charisma and is also a famous and house hold name.
