Udupi, May 22: A case stands registered against the then acting superintendent of the district prison here, S N Shivakumar, He has been charged with cheating the government to the tune of Rs 3,86,814 during the year 2012-13 relating to acquisition of certain assets for the prison and meeting expenditure.

The department has found that Shivakumar had provided false accounts relating to fixing of mono block pump inside the prison, tap repair, acquiring of computer and furniture, borewell pump, food items, fuel, purchase of water through tankers, generator repair etc.

Because of shortage of staff in the audit department of the department of prisons, and also because of the position of the accounts officer and accounts superintendent being deployed by the state audit and accounts having remained vacant for long, there has been delay in handling the case and filing of the complaint, it is said. The current district prison superintendent, Sanjay Jetti, filed this complaint in Hiriyadka police station.
