MCCP Organizes Inter-parish Holy Bible Quiz in Muscat

The Mangalorean Catholic Centre of the Parish (MCCP - SS Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi) for the first time in its history organized an inter-parish Holy Bible Quiz 2009 for the two parishes in the Sultanate of Oman on Friday April 17 in the main parish hall of Ruwi Church.  The two parishes were Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi and Holy Spirit Church, Ghala and participation was allowed to all the faithful of all the communities.

The programme commenced with the preliminary round at 12.00 noon and selection of six teams was done for the final round.

The programme for the final round commenced at 1.30 pm with a welcome address by Hilda Fernandes, spiritual secretary of MCCP.  Fr Albert D Silva, OFM Cap offered prayers seeking the choicest blessing on the event and the participants.

Renowned teacher of Indian School Al Wadi Kabir and versatile Quiz Master Ernst George Schwan was introduced by Nirmala Goveas, MCCP’s main coordinator – Cultural, Spiritual and Community Services Committees and she presented a brief profile of him.  Fr Albert D’Silva presented a floral bouquet to the Quiz Master on behalf of MCCP.

The main sponsors of the event were Leo Quadros, chairman and managing director of Regency Developers Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, Juliet Veronica Quadros and Leslie Agnelo Quadros, directors of Regency Developers Pvt Ltd, Bangalore and Addhia Trading & Contracting LLC – Muscat.  The sponsors were Raphael D’ Souza – Muscat Golden Services LLC and Oman Marketing & Services Co. (OMASCO). The main sponsor and sponsors were felicitated and their official representatives Walter Sequeira, Eldon D Souza and Wilson Pinto received the bouquets from Fr Albert D Silva.   Clarence Pinto, president of MCCP, Samuel D Silva, main coordinator of sports and finance committees, Nirmala Goveas – main coordinator of cultural, spiritual and community services committees were on the stage during this felicitation ceremony.

Quiz Master Ernst George Schwan professionally conducted the quiz creating enormous interest among the participants. There were eleven interesting and entertaining rounds.  The winners of the Holy Bible Quiz 2009 were as follows :

First : Sindhu Justin, Justin Das Y and Savio Michael Justin

Second: Ashwin Savio D Silva, Sachin Dominic D Silva and Rahul Vas

Third: Omana Varghese, Sujatha Jenson and Ramya S

Sunil Mascarenhas – Cultural Secretary of MCCP proposed the vote of thanks. Hazel Dias – Cultural Secretary anchored the prize distribution ceremony. Fr. Albert D Silva presented trophies and prizes to the winners.

There was a great support from various organizations and individuals to this event. The supporters of the event were Saira D Souza, Celso Fernandes, Asha Waterproofing & Insulation LLC, Photomagic, Lawrence Alva, National Training Institute, Mebal Pinto - Marmul Travels and Tourism LLC,  Haffa House Hotel,  Jenny Joseph – Al Sharaqi Trading, Talentz LLC, Bernard and Raphael Quadros of Zaharat Al Rowdha.

The MCCP executive committee consisting of Clarence Pinto – president, Samuel D’ Silva - main coordinator for sports and finance committees, Nirmala Goveas- main coordinator for cultural, spiritual & community services committees,  Victoria Soares -general secretary, Arun D’ Souza - honorary treasurer,  Alex Aranha - internal auditor,  Donald Fernandes -sports secretary,  Dolly Sequeira -  sports secretary,  Hazel Dias -  cultural secretary,  Sunil Prakash Mascarenhas - cultural secretary, Hilda Fernandes - spiritual secretary and Hubert D’ Souza -  community services secretary worked tirelessly to organize this mega event. They were also supported by Lancy Sequeira, Lancy Lobo, Anitha Lobo, Sharmila D Silva, Ronald D Souza, Shanti D Souza, Cheryl Fernandes, Nora Vaz, Victor Nazareth, Savitha Rebello, Eula Pinto, Shalet Pereira.
