Congress plans to open 12-year-old murder case against Pragya Singh Thakur

New Delhi, May 21: After the exit polls predicted Bhopal Lok Sabha candidate Pragya Singh Thakur will emerge victorious, the Madhya Pradesh government is contemplating on opening Sunil Joshi murder case.

Pragya Thakur and seven other accused were acquitted in 2017 in the 2007 Joshi murder case, due to lack of evidence.

Law Minister P C Sharma told media that state government will appeal in a higher court and Dewas district collector has been directed to submit a report in connection with the case.

Sharma also pointed out that the then DC tackled the issue at the bureaucratic level and shut the case instead of sending it to the law department for legal opinion.

Meanwhile, BJP has cried foul and termed the decision of the state government as political revenge.

“This move is being taken as Thakur contested against Congress's Digvijaya Singh,” BJP spokesman Rajnish Agrawal told media.

Sunil Joshi who was accused in the murder of a Congress leader and reportedly evading arrest. He was shot dead by bike-borne assailants in Chuna Khadan area of Dewas on December 29, 2007.

    There should not be any politics around any murder. The acquittal should have been appealed in the High Court in 2017 itself. But due to soft pedaling by the then government it was not done. It can definitely be reopened now and the culprits be brought to book.
